Déjà vu
Dance Before the Storm

Dance Before the Storm opens with my parents and myself dancing in their lounge room. We dance to the song Mack the Knife, written by the composer Kurt Weil during the Weimar period of the 1920’s in Berlin. As Weil was a Jew, the Nazis banned his music, calling it ‘degenerate.’

The aggression I experience at the Melbourne rallies reminds me of the vicious atmosphere of Nazi Germany that my parents struggled to survive in.
