Should I stay or Should I go?

Because I work behind the scenes at the Vipassana meditation centre, it’s important that I try to sit at least one '10 day Vipassana course' a year. My last 10 day course was a year ago, in March 2024, so I booked in for this March, and even though there was an ‘old student’ waiting list, I got in.
As usual, before going away, I try to explain to mum as clearly as possible that I’ll be disappearing for 11 days.
At first she was happy for me. But the next day -- the day I was leaving -- I could see the fear starting to creep over her face. She didn’t want me to go and pitifully asked me to stay with her.
Despite organising a roster system of supportive family and friends, leaving mum is emotionally tough.
I had a choice: to stay or to go. I very much wanted to do this course, so I went.
My Dear Marysia (Mamoosha)
Jane is going to meditation for 10 days.
Jane is very happy to go.
Jane will come back and be with Marysia soon
